FORT MYERS — Steven Hennigan has been named COO and deputy executive director of aviation for the Lee County Port Authority.
In this role, Hennigan, with more than 20 years of aviation and leadership experience, will lead the aviation division of more than 300 employees at Southwest Florida International Airport and Page Field in Fort Myers. Hennigan, according to a statement, will be responsible for the fiscal, administrative and operational oversight of the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Department, Airport Police Department, aviation security and technology, contract management, maintenance, operations and safety, as well as Base Operations at Page Field.
Most recently Hennigan was chief of operations for the Houston Airport System, where he managed operations at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), along with oversight of operational processes and procedures for both airports. Before that, Hennigan was the assistant general manager of operations at IAH for six years, where he worked on the planning and development of a $1.2 billion terminal redevelopment project. Prior to HAS, Hennigan, the release states, spent seven years at Denver International Airport (DEN) working as the aviation operations manager and other roles in airfield operations and the airport communications center.
The Lee County Port Authority operates Southwest Florida International Airport and Page Field in Fort Myers. No ad valorem (property) taxes are used for the operation or improvement of either airport.
Hennigan replaces longtime Lee County airport official Gary Duncan, who was most recently the deputy executive director of aviation for the authority. Duncan recently joined the operations team of a Punta Gorda Airport in Charlotte County.
