Retailer appoints e-commerce exec to chief digital officer role

FORT MYERS — E-commerce and digital retail veteran Jay Topper has been named chief digital officer at Fort Myers-based women’s retailer Chico’s FAS.

Topper will oversee the company’s technology, infrastructure and security and supply chain and logistics, according to a statement. He will report directly to Chico’s President and CEO Molly Langenstein, the release adds.

Topper has more than 20 years of digital experience. He joins Chico’s after four years at FTD, where he was chief digital officer and, the release states, instrumental in driving the flower company’s e-commerce business, products and technology functions and supply chain operations.

“Jay is an experienced leader with a proven track record of increasing consumer engagement and revenue,” Langenstein says in the release. “He will be instrumental in creating a seamless end-to-end customer experience and identifying customer friction points and unlocking sales and growth in our company.”

“As we continue to position ourselves as a digital-first and customer led company, I am proud to welcome Jay to Chico’s FAS,” she adds.

Prior to FTD, Topper was chief technology officer of Vitacost, where he led technology, fulfillment, distribution, social media and customer service. Before Vitacost, he was a senior vice president of  Customer Success at Rosetta Stone, where he oversaw technology, customer relationship management, learning engagement and customer service.

Founded in 1983, Chico’s operates 1,302 stores in the U.S. and sells merchandise through 68 international franchise locations in Mexico and 2 domestic franchise airport locations. It posted $2.03 billion in revenue in fiscal 2020.
