The Naples Airport Authority has begun a $7.6-million remodeling project of its General Aviation Terminal.

The work began May 31. The terminal is expected to reopen in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday in November, according to a statement. Renovations will include an upgraded lobby, expanded passenger lounge and a marketplace for food and drink.

The project will also provide roadway improvements, additional exterior canopies and upgraded office space for the Naples Airport Authority.

Naples Aviation, the airport’s sole fixed-base operator, will temporarily operate from the airport’s North Road Terminal, previously the commercial terminal, and the Naples Airport Authority will operate out of both the North Road Terminal and the Airport Office Building.

“By modernizing our facility, we are able to provide additional services and amenities that our customers are accustomed to,” Christopher Rozansky, executive director of the Naples Airport Authority, says in a release. “We are also excited to bring a coastal modern vision to life with elements of the Naples Pier and wave-like canopies, features that quickly remind you why people are attracted to Southwest Florida in the first place.”

The terminal improvements were designed by SchenkelShultz Architecture, Orlando, and are being built by Fort Myers-based Owen-Ames-Kimball Co., which has a location in Naples. The project is entirely funded by airport revenues, without the use of local tax dollars, the release states.
