Contractor awarded $26.2 million trail project

Construction on the Legacy Trail extension project is expected to begin in early 2020.

SARASOTA — Commercial contractor Jon F. Swift Construction was recently awarded the contract for the Legacy Trail extension project by Sarasota County.

The total project budget with design and construction is $26.2 million. 

The recreational trail project includes building approximately eight miles of paved, multi-use trail for non-motorized traffic from the Hugh Culverhouse Nature Park to north of Fruitville Road in the City of Sarasota, according to a press release. It will also include 4.5 miles that will be the North Port Connector.

“We are excited about the opportunity to build this long-awaited project right in our backyard,” says Jon F. Swift Construction President Jason Swift in a statement. “Our team is ready to get started to make this vision a reality for our community.”

Construction is expected to begin in early 2020.
