CORTEZ — The Seafood Shack Marina, Bar & Grill in Cortez Village has named Joe Rogers its chief operating officer.

During his tenure as a manager and general manager, Rogers opened a 500-seat beachfront restaurant and was a key voice in several high-end renovations for both front and back of house, according to a press release.

For just over three months, Rogers has taken the helm at the Seafood Shack, overseeing the marina, restaurant and banquet operations. Under Rogers’ leadership at the Seafood Shack, there has been menu revisions, policy and procedure changes, and a plan to continue building on the Seafood Shack’s legacy.

After working for several years in fine dining, Joe became certified with the Court of Master Sommeliers. The certification has helped him create and maintain extensive wine lists that appeal to the masses, a statement says.

The Seafood Shack was built in the early 1970s. In 2014, the marina and restaurant were acquired by Toronto-based development firm VANDYK group of companies. A revitalization began under the new ownership and management.

The Shack has a 120-slip marina and 180-seat restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the intracoastal waters of Sarasota Bay and beyond. The second floor has 6,700 square feet of meeting space with water views — a venue for weddings, business meetings and other gatherings.
