SARASOTA — Sarasota County commissioners confirmed Mike Mylett as the new director of Sarasota County’s Public Utilities Department.

Mylett has been with Sarasota County Government since 2000, according to a press release. He has served in a variety of roles within public utilities, including division manager of Water and Wastewater starting in 2018 until his appointment to interim director in April.

By ordinance, commissioners must confirm the public utilities director.

Commissioner Charles Hines, who also serves as chairman, says in the statement that Mylett has worked hard to earn the role since his appointment as interim director and has continued to recognize water quality as a top board priority.

“Mike brings the knowledge to make the necessary recommendations to our administration team and the county commission on how to improve our public utilities system,” says Sarasota County Administrator Jonathan Lewis in the statement. “He was the logical choice to lead the department.”
