SARASOTA — A groundbreaking ceremony for The DeMarcay, a luxury condominium project in downtown Sarasota by GK Development, was held Wednesday. Nov. 13.
The development at 33 S. Palm Ave. will include 39 residences. It will have 24-hour valet service, a fitness center, clubroom and rooftop pool.
According to a press release, the event "marks the start of the process to preserve two historic facades and selected interior materials from the former hotel and cigar factory situated on the current site and repurpose them for use inside the new building."
A portion of The DeMarcay’s lobby will use the original tin tiles on the ceiling. The original interior doors will be used as decorative wall installations in the common halls, the statement adds.
The showroom and sales gallery for The DeMarcay is across the street from the project, at 32 S. Palm Ave.
