Suncoast Credit Union opened a new branch in downtown St. Petersburg on May 9 that caters to customers, coffee lovers and even dogs.

At 1022 Central Ave., in the heart of the city’s booming downtown, the branch brims with features sure to appeal to St. Pete downtown residents and workers, such as a coffee bar, free secure Wi-Fi, extended operating hours, dog bowls, a mural painted by local artist Derek Donnelly and modern furniture inspired by the industrial loft architecture of the branch’s building.

The 2,500-square-foot branch has been designed with an open floor plan that resembles a café more than it does an older credit union or bank branch. And there’s no traditional office space, according to a press release.

“We are excited to open this branch because it is innovative and speaks to the way our members live today,” Suncoast President and CEO Kevin Johnson states in the release. “Like the downtown St. Petersburg culture, this branch will welcome members in its own unique way while offering the same products, services and conveniences that our members enjoy. We look forward to extending our reach in St Petersburg into downtown and being part of this vibrant community.”

John Collins, executive director of the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance, praised the design of the new branch, saying art and business should work hand-in-hand more often. "We are committed to helping businesses and artists come together to provide original art that employs local artists and incorporates the business into our arts and cultural community,” Collins states in the release.

Boasting nearly $10 billion in total assets, Suncoast is the largest credit union in Florida.
