During the depths of the 2007-2009 recession, 7-Eleven convenience stores went searching for a commercial developer to build stores in Southwest Florida and found Cape Coral-based Creighton Construction & Development was still in business. Since then, Creighton has been a go-to contractor, building and remodeling locations in multiple states.
“We did a small development for 7-Eleven in 2010,” Creighton Development founder and CEO Dan Creighton tells Coffee Talk. “I got a call from one of the higher-ups in October, and he says we have to have this store open by the end of the year. That was no joke. We delivered that thing from groundbreaking to serving Slurpees in 65 days, and we went on to do another one in 58 days.”
Since then, 7-Eleven has rewarded Creighton with dozens of projects, including eight that recently opened in Florida. In addition to stores in Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres, Clearwater and Wesley Chapel, projects included locations in Davenport, Kissimmee, Orlando and Spring Hill. Highlights of the project include:
• In Cape Coral, the new 7-Eleven at 2327 Andalusia Blvd. is a ground-up construction of a 3,000-square-foot store with 12 fueling positions and a car wash;
• In Lehigh Acres, a new store at 2926 Meadow Road is a ground-up construction of a 3,000-square-foot store with 13 fueling positions, plus high-frequency diesel fuel;
• In Wesley Chapel, a new store at 2525 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. is a 3,000-square-foot store with 16 fueling positions; and
• In Clearwater, a remodeled 7-Eleven at 1971 Sunset Point Road is a 4,000-square-foot store with 16 fueling positions and a car wash.
Creighton Construction does other work besides 7-Elevens. Its services include site acquisition, engineering, design, permitting and construction. It does work in Florida, Texas, Colorado and Virginia.
