The home of the Florida Everblades is about to get a new name, and a new color scheme.
The ECHL AA Premier Hockey League team, a popular draw for area hockey fans, has entered into an agreement with Estero-based rental car giant Hertz to rename Germain Arena to Hertz Arena.
Hertz skated into Southwest Florida in 2015, relocating its headquarters from Park Ridge, N.J. Its latest power play will help the company score a key goal in raising not only the visibility of company, but of the arena as well.
If the Village of Estero approves a proposed redesign for the exterior of the building, it will be emblazoned with the company’s signature yellow. The arena’s current off-white and grayish color renders it a bit unnoticeable to travelers along Interstate 75 between Fort Myers and Naples. The agreement includes updating the facility’s interior and exterior, with the Hertz logo and other branded signage.
“Establishing strong roots in Southwest Florida has been very important to us since relocating our world headquarters to Estero in 2015,” Hertz President and Chief Executive Officer Kathryn Marinello says in a statement. “So many of our employees and customers live, work and travel here. We’re proud to call Estero our home and committed to making a positive impact in the community, which includes this exciting new partnership with the Everblades and the many special events thousands of people will enjoy at Hertz Arena.”
In addition to serving as the home of the Florida Everblades for the past 20 years, the 7,000-seat arena hosts hundreds of concerts, entertainment and sporting events each year. Hertz, meanwhile, is marking its 100th anniversary in 2018.
“The Florida Everblades are extremely pleased to enter into a naming rights agreement with Hertz,” Everblades President Craig Brush says in the statement. “We look forward to a long-term relationship, one that will allow us to continue to serve the community for years to come.”
