Airport reports record-breaking August passenger traffic

Southwest Florida International Airport serves more than 501,000 travelers, up 4.1% over August 2017.

FORT MYERS — The months-long trend of more passengers and fewer flights through Southwest Florida International Airport continued in August, as the airport reported a 4.1% increase in passenger traffic amid a 4.1% decrease in overall aircraft operations.

During August, 501,023 passengers traveled through the airport compared to 481,185 in August 2017. Delta Air Lines served the most passengers at 124,596 traveling to and from Fort Myers. Delta was followed by American Airlines (90,455), Southwest Airlines (85,612), JetBlue (65,209) and United Air Lines (44,456). Year-to-date, passenger traffic is 6.6 million, up 5.1% from the same period last year

Overall, the airport had 4,451 aircraft operations, a decrease of 4.1% compared to August 2017. Just more than 2.7 million pounds of air freight moved through the airport in August.

Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 8.8 million passengers in 2017 and is ranked as one of the top 50 airports in the U.S. for passenger traffic.
