Airport breaks another passenger record

Southwest Florida International smashes September mark by 27.7% with nearly 419,000 travelers.

FORT MYERS — Southwest Florida International Airport had another record-breaking month in september as 418,956 passengers traveled through the airport, an increase of 27.7% compared to September 2017

Year-to-date, passenger traffic has shown an increase of 6.3% from the same period last year. In addition, RSW reported nearly 9.3 million passengers for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, breaking all records in the airport’s 35-year history.

Delta Air Lines served the greatest number of passengers in September among all carriers serving the airport at 93,483. Delta was followed by American with 72,983 passengers, Southwest at 66,667, JetBlue with 60,934 and United at 39,986. 

Despite the increase in passenger volume, the airport continued its trend of fewer over aircraft operations. RSW had 4,043 operations in September, a decrease of 4.9% compared to September 2017 as just more than 2.3 million pounds of air freight moved through the airport during the month.

Year to date, the airport has served just more than 7 million passengers.
