Airport reports drop in monthly passenger count

Southwest Florida International travelers decline by 2% as aircraft operations increase over October 2017.

FORT MYERS — Following a five-month run of gains in total passenger traffic compared to the year prior, October showed a 2% decrease in travelers at Southwest Florida International Airport compared to October 2017. During October, 569,553 passengers compared to 581,317 the year prior, according to a statement. 

Year-to-date, passenger traffic is at 7.6 million, up 5.6% from the same period last year. The airport served more than 8.8 million passengers in 2017.

Delta Air Lines served the most passengers at RSW with 119,860 traveling to and from Fort Myers. Delta was followed by American with 98,408, Southwest with 91,966, JetBlue with 75,693 and United with 64,125, the airport states. 

Despite the passenger decrease, total aircraft operations in October showed a 0.3% gain over the same period in 2017 at 5,379. In addition, just more than 2.7 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in October.
