Construction firm completes transformation of shuttered big-box store

National retailer now occupies retail space on Pine Island Road

CAPE CORAL — Gates Construction and Ashmark Construction completed renovations on the Burlington store at 1810 NE Pine Island Road in Cape Coral. The national off-price department store occupies the former Sports Authority location.

The space underwent a complete interior demolition and replacement of walls, lighting, HVAC, plumbing and flooring, according to a statement. The 40,178-square-foot retail space features a larger stock area, new front entrance, offices and break room. Design services were provided by Herschman Architects, which has offices in Cleveland, Tucson, Ariz., and Los Angeles. The cost of the renovation was not disclosed.

Gates Construction has offices in Bonita Springs and Sarasota. Ashmark Construction is a commercial general contractor and developer headquartered in West Bloomfield, Mich. Burlington, recently rebranded from Burlington Coat Factory, is based in Burlington, N.J.
