FORT MYERS — Lee Health promoted Dr. K. Alex Daneshmand to the role of vice president for quality and safety for the entire campus.

Daneshmand was previously acute care officer for Golisano Children's Hospital, where he provided leadership to improve quality and safety in collaboration with physicians and staff, according to a statement. Over the past two years, the children's hospital has been recognized for its quality and safety excellence by the Leapfrog Group as one of the Top Children's Hospitals in the United States, the release adds.

Daneshmand joined Golisano Children's Hospital in 2007 as a physician in the pediatric intensive care unit. He assumed the role of medical director of quality and safety at Golisano Children's Hospital in August 2015

In his new role, Daneshmand is responsible for quality and safety across Lee Health, including hospital accreditation, certifications, national hospital grading, conformance auditing and risk assessments.

Lee Health, with six hospitals in the system and multiple other practices, is one of the largest medical operations in the state.
