TAMPA — Atlanta-based PulteGroup Inc. has broken ground on an 850-home, age-restricted development within the Bexley master-planned community in Land O'Lakes.
According to a press release, Del Webb Bexley — the company's most ambitious project in 2018 — will be built in four phases on 489 acres that PulteGroup's Tampa division acquired last year.
“We feel the Tampa area is underserved for baby boomers looking to live in a place that is designed specifically for them,” states Sean Strickler, PulteGroup's west Florida division president. “At Del Webb Bexley, they can live near their children and grandchildren, but in a low maintenance, gated community that caters to their lifestyle.”
According to the release, Del Webb has been a pioneer in active-adult communities targeted toward the 55 and up demographic, and the Bexley development represents the first Del Webb community to be built from the ground up in the Tampa Bay area since 1960. Home prices will start in the low $200,000s.
Del Webb will be one of the largest builders within Bexley, a 1,825-acre master-planned community developed by Newland Communities approximately 20 miles northwest of downtown Tampa.
