ESTERO — A new outpatient facility near Coconut Point also brings the first free-standing emergency department to Lee County. Lee Health Coconut Point recently opened the doors of its new, 163,500-square-foot outpatient clinic to serve residents of Estero and Bonita Springs.
The clinic is near the intersection of Coconut Road and U.S. 41, just south of Coconut Point Mall.
The new emergency department addresses a void in emergency care in southern Lee County, according to a statement. Previously, patients with urgent medical needs in Estero and Bonita Springs had to be transported to hospitals in either Fort Myers or Naples, a gap of about 25 miles.
The 24-hour emergency department features 16 exam rooms plus nine rooms for short-stay observation, on-site ambulance transportation quarters should patients need to be taken to a hospital and telemedicine that helps link patients with specialists such as neurologists for patients suffering from stroke.
In addition to emergency care, Lee Health Coconut Point offers the space, technology and equipment to provide an array of health care services including primary and specialty care previously unavailable in the area, the release adds.
The clinic features surgical suites capable of a wide range of outpatient procedures; advanced outpatient diagnostic and imagery services; a Healthy Life Center with teaching kitchen, space for fitness classes and a teaching garden; rehab and physical therapy including balance and fall prevention equipment; women's health services including breast health imaging and treatment; and primary and specialty Lee Physician Group practices.
