FORT MYERS — Nearly 1.4 million passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers in March, an increase of 10.2% compared to March 2017.

In total, 1,379,728 passengers traveled through the Fort Myers airport in March, according to a statement. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 10% from the same period last year, the release adds.

“Despite numerous flight cancellations in March due to weather conditions in other parts of the U.S., Southwest Florida International Airport still experienced the single-largest month for passenger traffic in our 35-year history and a record-breaking first quarter,” says the Lee County Port Authority Executive Director cin the statement.

The traffic leader in March was Southwest Airlines with 297,668 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Delta Air Lines (268,505), American (168,995), Spirit (166,602) and JetBlue (136,670).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 10,907 aircraft operations in March, an increase of 3.5% compared to March 2017. Page Field saw 8,415 operations — a 20.5% decrease from March 2017.
