West Coast Tomato executive Bob Spencer was recently elected chairman of the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority for 2018.

Spencer, chairman of Palmetto-based West Coast Tomato, a family-owned agricultural operation that owns tomato farms and real estate in southwest Florida, has been on the airport board since 2015, when Florida Gov. Rick Scott appointed him. He was vice chairman of the board in 2017, according to a statement.

“I am very pleased to serve as the next chairman of the Airport Authority and look forward to another year of continued development and success for the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority,” Spencer says in the statement. “The board will continue to focus on increasing the number of flights available for the SRQ customers.”

Dr. Peter Wish, who was appointed to the Board in 2013 and was chairman from 2014-15, has been elected vice chairman. Former State Rep. Doug Holder, R-Sarasota, who was appointed to the Board in 2015, was elected secretary. Holder served in the Florida House, District 74, from 2006 through 2014.
