FORT MYERS — Dr. Larry Antonucci will succeed Jim Nathan as president and CEO of Lee Health.

The Lee Health board chose Dr. Antonucci after Nathan stepped down as president to serve as a board resource for the rest of his contract period, which ends in March 2019. Dr. Antonucci will assume his new role June 1.

Dr. Antonucci has been Lee Health chief operating officer since 2011, leading the patient care team at all Lee Health facilities. His responsibilities included the operation of the six hospitals within the system; outpatient facilities; post-acute services; ancillary clinical departments such as pharmacy, respiratory therapy, laboratory services and radiology/imaging services; and the physician practices owned by Lee Health.

He was also chief administrative officer for Cape Coral Hospital. Prior to joining Lee Health in 2007, he was a practicing obstetrician and gynecologist. He co-founded the multi-specialty group practice Physicians Primary Care in Lee County in 1983 and was the CEO there.

“It's a privilege to be named CEO and lead an organization that is closely guided by its commitment to the community and passion to deliver care that improves the quality of people's lives,” says Dr. Antonucci in a statement. “I want to thank Jim Nathan for his support and guidance and for everything he has done to embed a caring culture. He has had a tremendous impact on each and every one of us at Lee Health and throughout the community.”
