Golf cart owners in Florida have a new option when it comes to insuring their ride.
Tampa-based American Integrity Insurance Co. now offers standalone golf cart coverage for Florida residents. The company says it's the only Florida-based homeowners insurance company to offer the coverage. Protections include property damage, liability coverage, injury liability, collision and comprehensive coverage.
American Integrity President and CEO Bob Ritchie says interest has been strong since it was introduced in December. The company's goal is to be the dominant writer of standalone golf cart coverage in the state. “Our objective is to ensure Floridians have coverage that matches their needs,” Ritchie tells Coffee Talk. “This program helps meet those needs.”
American Integrity is particularly targeting residents of golf course communities statewide. People in communities such as The Villages in Sumter County often use golf carts, some even using them as their primary means of transportation. And because anyone over the age of 14 can drive a golf cart without a license in Florida, Ritchie says visiting grandchildren can end up taking a turn at the wheel of their grandparents' golf cart, sometimes resulting in accidents.
Ritchie says many people have uninsured golf carts or insure them under their homeowners' coverage. But golf cart accidents can negatively impact homeowners policies — one of the big advantages to having separate coverage, Ritchie says. Another advantage to his company's coverage, he says, is that American Integrity allows customers to insure a golf cart for its full value.
American Integrity Insurance has more than 250,000 customers and is represented by more than 900 independent agents.
