SARASOTA — New College of Florida has named Barbara Feldman as the school's next provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Feldman served as the provost of Massachusetts' Bridgewater State University from August 2014 to August 2016. She was previously dean of Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences at New Jersey City University.

Music professor Stephen Miles, New College's current provost, will step down in June after two three-year terms in the position. He will return to teaching. Feldman will start as provost July 1. Her plans include encouraging faculty and student research, expanding study abroad programs and enhancing New College's connections to the community.

“We are delighted to have Barbara Feldman join New College as our next provost,” says New College President Don O'Shea. “She has a distinguished record of leadership and innovation, and impressed the search committee and those she met on campus with her appreciation of New College's mission and her ideas for how the College can build on its legacy of excellence.”
