TAMPA — For the second time in a row Premier Eye Care, a national leader in managed medical and routine eye care, has received a major industry certification in consumer protection and customer service improvement.

The Tampa-based company, with $108.7 million in revenue in 2015, received Certification for Utilization Management and Credentialing from the National Committee for Quality Assurance, according to a statement. The certification, the result of a voluntary review process, reduces the level of review and information gathering required for current or future health care partners to do business with Premier.

Premier first earned the certification in December 2014. It was re-certified in December 2016, and earned a 100% score in both utilization management and credentialing, the release states. The certification puts Premier on par with the nation's top health plans in following best practices, company officials say.

“We are extremely proud to earn this certification renewal from NCQA,” Premier President and CEO Lorna Taylor says in the release. “It reflects the ongoing quality of our utilization management and credentialing functions at Premier, as we continue to focus on being best-in-class in our industry.”

Premier Eye Care, founded in 1994, has about 100 employees.
