FORT MYERS BEACH — The Best Western Plus Beach Resort on Fort Myers Beach was recently recognized with the brand's highest honor, the M.K. Guertin Award — the fifth consecutive year the resort has earned the chain's top prize.

On a secluded private beach at the north end of Estero Island, the hotel, with 75 beachfront rooms, is the only hotel in Florida to receive the award, and one of 41 out of 2,100 in North America, according to a statement. The award was presented to Tim Malbon, managing general partner of The Best Western Plus Beach Resort, in front of about 2,500 Best Western hoteliers and staff at the company's North American Convention held in Nashville, Tenn.

The M.K. Guertin Award goes to properties that best represent the vision of Best Western's founder and demonstrate exceptional levels of quality, guest satisfaction and dedication to the brand, the release states. Hotels must also meet other brand standards and membership requirements to qualify for the award.

“Named after our founder, the M.K. Guertin Award is our brand's most esteemed honor — recognizing Best Western hotels that consistently demonstrate superior levels of service to our guests,” Best Western Hotels & Resorts Chairman Terrance Bichsel says in the release. “It's a privilege to award the Best Western Plus Beach Resort for their commitment to excellence and being a leader within our brand.”

Tim Malbon and his cousin, Jeff Malbon, general manager, operate the family-owned resort with other family members. The hotel is also a five-year winner of Best Western's Champion Customer Care Award and a 2015 winner of the chain's Green Award, recognizing commitment to conserving resources and reducing carbon footprint.
