Airport moves less people, more stuff

FORT MYERS — Southwest Florida International Airport reported a 1.4% decrease in passengers this March compared to the same month last year.

Passenger traffic is down 2.8% year-to-date compared with 2016.

The top five airlines at the airport in March by passenger traffic were Southwest, Delta Air Lines, American, Spirit and JetBlue.

The airport had 10,535 aircraft takeoffs and landings in March, a 1.3% decrease from March 2016. More than 3 million pounds of air freight moved through the airport this March, which represents a 6.2% increase from last March.

Southwest Florida International Airport served 8.6 million passengers in 2016, according to a press release. It is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic.
