Passenger traffic, takeoffs and landings at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers slowed this past August over August 2015.

The airport reported 431,729 passengers traveled through the gates in August, down 5% from August 2015, according to a statement from the Lee County Port Authority. There was a combined 4,144 landings and takeoffs in the month, down 4.7% from August 2015.

Year-to-date, however, passenger traffic is up 3.7% from the same period last year, the release adds.

The traffic leader in August was Delta, with 101,912 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (78,526), JetBlue (72,152), American (70,195) and United (36,066).

Southwest Florida International Airport served nearly 8.4 million passengers in 2015 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic.
