Airport busts through milestone passenger count

The Punta Gorda Airport in Charlotte County has surpassed one million passengers over a 12-month rolling period for the first time ever.

The total passenger count for the 12 months ended Aug. 31 is 1,014,550, according a statement from the Charlotte County Airport Authority, which oversees the airport. In addition, the passenger count for August 2016 was 81,800 people, up 35.7% compared to August 2015, when there were 60,240 passengers.

Allegiant Air offers nonstop service to 31 cities from the Punta Gorda Airport and Frontier Airlines recently announced service to Chicago O'Hare Airport, Trenton, N.J. and Philadelphia International Airport.
