Mayors, by the nature of their office, normally covet the spotlight.

But on Halloween, Naples Mayor Bill Barnett will be hiding out — disguised in a costume at the Fifth Avenue South Halloween Spooktacular on 5th. The event, from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m., is part of the fall CityFEST celebration.

Barnett isn't dressing up to avoid citizens, or the press. It's part of a game called Locate the Mayor. The first person to identify Barnett in his costume will receive dinner for him or her and a guest with the mayor and his wife that night at Chops City Grill on Fifth Avenue South.

The mayor plans to hit the streets in his getup from 6 to 8 p.m.

“Halloween is also my birthday, and there is no better place to celebrate than on 5th Avenue South at its famous Halloween Spooktacular on 5th,” Barnett says in a statement. “It won't be an easy task to find me in costume, but if you do, my wife and I will be thrilled to treat you to a delicious dinner. ”

The Halloween Spooktacular, in addition to the search for Barnett, includes trick or treating for kids from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., live music, a street dance, a giant movie screen featuring fun and classic horror cartoons and movies, classic cars on display and an adult costume contest.
