National paint retailer Benjamin Moore is looking for, well, more sales, and it's using a successful store in Sarasota to lead the way.

The Montvale, N.J.-based chain, a unit of Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway, selected Sarasota Paint Co. for its first new concept store, called Benjamin Moore Store of the Future. Sarasota Paint Co., owned by David Jasik, has three locations in the Sarasota-Bradenton region and is Benjamin Moore's largest multi-store distributor on the west coast of Florida, according to a statement. All the stores combined generate more than $3 million a year in annual revenues.

The first store of the future is Jasik's flagship, on 12th Street in Sarasota, just north of downtown. Renovations include an improved color selection area, new color chip display and enhanced lighting to help customers make design level decisions. Says Jasik: “The store is more like a custom design center than a paint store where you'd stand on a concrete floor under warehouse lighting, squinting to make color decisions.”

Jasik has been in the paint business since 1988. He opened a Bradenton location in 2007 and a second Sarasota location, near Siesta Key, in late 2103. Customers include residential and commercial painters, homeowners and interior decorators.
