SARASOTA — One of the largest and most established law firms in the Sarasota-Manatee region, Williams Parker Harrison Dietz & Getzen, has hired four attorneys and several legal staffers from Kunkel, Miller & Hament.

The attorneys and employees will bolster Williams Parker's labor and employment practice — one of the fastest growing segments of the legal field. It also brings the firm's total attorney count to 47. “There's a huge expansion in the number of rules employers face today from years ago,” Williams Parker President Ric Gregoria tells the Business Observer in an interview. “This gives us a real powerhouse going forward.”

The new attorneys at Williams Parker are John Hament, Jennifer Fowler-Hermes, Gail Farb, and Lindsey Dunn, according to a statement. The new lawyers represent public and private employers of all sizes, the release adds, and add strategic depth to Williams Parker's other core practices. “We have long admired Kunkel Miller & Hament's position as the area's go-to labor and employment boutique,” Williams Parker labor and employment practice leader Kim Walker says in the release.

Gregoria says the firm, which celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2015, made a decision to expand its labor and employment offerings about six months ago. Getting Hament, he says, was a fortuitous “full-circle move” because Hament interviewed for a position at Williams Parker with Bill Harrison 30 years ago.

“Amid the rapidly shifting legal landscape, we have seen a tremendous increase in the complexity of the labor and employment law matters our clients face daily,” Hament says in the release. “By joining with the Williams Parker attorneys, we gain substantial breadth in serving our growing base of clients wherever their business interests are located.”

Attorney Michael Miller with Kunkel, Miller & Hament couldn't be reached for comment on the firm. Miller is a practicing attorney in Tampa and prominent longtime area labor attorney Daniel Kunkel is retired. Former Kunkel, Miller & Hament labor attorney Anne Chapman joined Blalock Walters last summer.
