In Forbes' list of the largest 223 private companies headquartered in the United States, two are based in the Gulf Coast of Florida region.
Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets, with $32.6 billion in revenues, and Seffner-based Rooms to Go, with $2.1 billion in revenues, ranked eighth and 216th, respectively.
Overall, seven Florida companies cracked the top 223. Joining Publix and Rooms to Go are Southern Glazer's (17), JM Family Enterprises (21), Southeastern Grocer (26), Oxbow (143) and Crowley Maritime (210).
The list ranks companies in order of revenues, with $2 billion being the cutoff. The 223 companies combined for $1.62 trillion in revenues and employ more than 4.5 million people, Forbes says. Minneapolis-based Cargill was the No. 1 company on the list with $120.4 billion in revenue.
