Halfacre Construction Co. is working on multiple projects at Punta Gorda Airport totaling $1.955 million.

The projects include reconstructing two parking lots — the long-term lot and the cell phone parking lot — and adding new pay stations, a statement says. Roughly 500 parking spaces are being added to the two lots.

The exits out of the long-term and short-term lots are also being reconstructed to double the lane total from two to four, the statement says. The projects are expected to be finished toward to end of fall this year.

“Punta Gorda is one of the fastest growing airports in the country,” says Gary Quill, executive director of the Charlotte County Airport Authority, in the statement. “Due to its increasing popularity, we draw passengers from Marco Island to Sarasota. These updates will result in a much more efficient layout than we have ever had.”

Punta Gorda Airport has carried more than 972,000 passengers in the past 12 months. The airport is on track to break the one million-passenger mark for the first time this year.

Halfacre Construction has also seen rapid growth recently. The company's revenue jumped 32% to $33 million in 2015.
