TAMPA — Checkers & Rally's Restaurants, a Tampa-based chain with more than 800 locations, is calling out Burger King.

Burger King announced recently the addition of hot dogs to its menu, available for $1.99 each. In response, Checkers & Rally's took out a full-page ad in USA Today declaring “Wiener War” with Burger King. “Hey Burger King, it's time to compare wieners,” the ad reads.

“We're engaged in a fun, aggressive and provocative Wiener War with Burger King,” says Checkers and Rally's chief marketing officer, Terri Snyder, in a statement. “And it's a war we plan to win.”

The Tampa-based company argues that its history, 30-plus years selling hot dogs, and its price point — $0.79 per dog versus $1.99 per dog — give it the upper hand.

“You can get one of our great dogs for less than half the price of theirs,” Snyder says in the statement. “This is the kind of big bold flavor at an amazing value our brand has always stood for, from hot dogs to burgers to ice cream and across out entire menu.”
