Lee home prices jump 23%

FORT MYERS — The median sale price of an existing single-family home in Lee County in January rose to $233,000, a 23% increase over January 2015.

Home prices on the barrier islands were especially strong in January compared with the same month one year ago, according to data from the Realtor Association of Greater Fort Myers and the Beach. For example, the median sale price of an existing home on Pine Island jumped 92% to $297,500 and increased 60% on Sanibel and Captiva to $902,500.

Other areas of Lee County that reported strong median-home price increases in January compared with the same month a year ago were Cape Coral (24%), Lehigh Acres (21%) and Estero (17%).

Meanwhile, the median sale price of an existing condo in Lee County rose 12% to $185,000 in January compared with the same month in 2015.

While the number of active for-sale listings was flat in January compared with the same month a year ago, the number of sales of single-family homes in Lee County fell 5.5% in January, to 789 transactions. The number of existing-condo sales in January fell 7%, to 400 transactions.
