Stephan has held a variety of leadership roles in several industries, including 25 years with electronic firm NCR Corp., where he rose to senior vice president of the company's international division. He's a past chair of the Sarasota Opera Board, the release states, and has served on numerous other boards.

The Gulf Coast Community Foundation, founded in 1995 from the proceeds of the sale of Venice Hospital, has donated more than $220 million in grants.
