Mettler Toledo, a global manufacturer of precision weighing instruments and scales, plans to build a 250,000-square-foot facility in Lutz, next to the Suncoast Parkway.

The Columbus, Ohio-based company operates a facility nearby, with 320 employees. It will consolidate the old plant into the new one, according to a release, retain the 320 positions and add up 185 new hires. The expansion is at least a $30 million investment into the region, the statement adds. Construction is expected to be complete in the fall of 2017.

The facility will be built for the company's Safeline product inspection division, which includes check-weighing, industrial metal detection and x-ray inspection systems for the food, pharmaceutical and packaged consumer goods industries.

“We are very excited to have made the decision to locate our new facility in Pasco County,” Mettler Toledo Safeline General Manager Viggo Nielsen says in the release. “We wanted a location where our current staff would be able to follow us and where we could pull new team members from a diverse and well educated pool."

Mettler Toledo is publicly traded, listed on the NYSE. It had $2.39 billion in revenues in 2015.
