TAMPA — Tech-enabled moving company Bellhops is creating 100 new moving and lifting jobs for college students in Tampa.

In the hiring process, Bellhops is hoping to field 150 applications from Tampa-area college students, a statement says. Each bellhop is paid between $13 and $15 per hour.

“Thanks to mushrooming demand, we must drastically increase the number of bellhops we have in the field. It's that simple,” says Bellhops COO Matt Patterson in the statement. “Last year, Bellhops business grew by 570% in Tampa. We're planning to do more of the same in 2016, and we'll need to add a slew of bellhops to support that growth.”

The Bellhops technology is similar to that of Uber: Once a job is booked through a smartphone app, all local bellhops will be notified. The job can be claimed on a first-come first-served basis, the statement says.

Founded in 2013, Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Bellhops has a presence in nearly 90 cities, the statement says. Close to 6,000 college students nationwide have joined the platform, including students from Eckerd College, Hillsborough Community College, the University of Tampa and the University of South Florida.
