The recovery in the real estate industry has impacts in a broad range of associated industries — including law.
Take the Orlando-based law firm GrayRobinson, which recently established its 13th office. This one is in Fort Myers, where real estate activity has picked up substantially.
Michael Randolph, who is board certified in construction law, is leading the firm's newest office with municipal attorney Derek Rooney. The firm plans to hire two or three more attorneys and it's keen on lawyers who specialize in real estate transactions.
“Given the pickup in the market, we see that area as continuing to get better,” Randolph says. “In the long-term that needs to be an area we need to solidify our presence.”
Gray Robinson leased space in a downtown building owned by Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson. “It was bigger than what we were looking for, but he gave us a really good deal we couldn't refuse,” Randolph says.
More growth could be on the way for the firm in its already existing Naples office, and the next new location could be Sarasota, where real estate has also been in a strong recovery. “If things go well, that would probably be the next area we would want to look into,” Randolph says.
