Southeast Florida, the part around Miami and Fort Lauderdale, is more than crowds, traffic and long lines: That portion of the state is also home to five of the top 10 best-performing stocks from the last five years, according to a report from financial data firm SmartAsset.
Two companies on the list, Lakewood Ranch-based Roper Technologies and Tampa-based Masonite International, also made the rankings. The list analyzes companies with stock prices that have grown the fastest and paid the most in dividends — while providing the least amount of risk to investors.
New York City-based SmartAsset studied the period from January 2010 through March, and included companies on the NYSE, Nasdaq and AMEX. SmartAsset researchers used the stock price, dividend data and volatility of each company in that time period to calculate a risk-adjusted return. Companies had to have a market value of at least $50 million by the end of the 2015 first quarter to make the list.
