An 85,000-square-foot facility in Hardee County for Sarasota-based Florikan, a manufacturer of controlled release fertilizers, is set to open later this week.

A grand opening for the facility, in the Hardee County Commerce Park, is scheduled for Oct. 21. The goal of the expansion is to double the production capacity and increase storage capacity of its distribution and finished goods warehouse, according to a statement.

“Florikan's new manufacturing facility furthers our company's vision of bringing plant nutrition, production and conservation together by providing growers with improved access to efficient fertilizer technologies,” Florikan President Eric Rosenthal says in the statement.

The decision to move to Hardee County, 60 miles east of Sarasota, stems from running out of space in Sarasota. Hardee County officials worked with Florikan, founded in 1981, on the relocation, including building the complex.
