Firm expands presence in Hawkeye State

TAMPA — WellCare of Iowa Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Tampa-based WellCare Health Plans Inc., signed a contract to serve Iowa's Medicaid Managed Care program.

The contract with the Iowa Department of Human Services, effective Jan. 1, lasts three years and comes with an option for two additional two-year terms, according to a statement.

Under the contract, WellCare will serve the Iowa Medicaid, the Iowa Health and Wellness Plan and the Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa programs. WellCare will also provide care for Iowa residents that participate in the home and community-based services Iowa offers.

WellCare Health Plans focuses on providing government sponsored care services, primarily through Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans. The company serves nearly 4 million members nationwide.
