CAPE CORAL — The Realtor associations of Cape Coral and Fort Myers will unite if their members agree.
The boards of the Cape Coral Association of Realtors and the Realtor Association of Greater Fort Myers and the Beach agreed to unite into a single association linking the two areas of Lee County. The 6,000 members of the two organizations can vote on the proposal over a 10-day period that ends Oct. 26.
“A joint task force of leadership from both associations has worked behind the scenes for many months on this project because there are great benefits in strength in numbers, collaboration, influence and tools,” says Paula Hellenbrand, broker and owner of Encore Realty Services and president of the Cape Coral Association of Realtors, in a statement. “For years we have worked side by side serving our community while in the eyes of the public they have always viewed us as one organization.”
The joint organization will provide more education and services to its members from three offices in the area, proponents of the agreement say. “They also recognize that multiple associations with duplicate services and individual membership requirements place a financial burden on brokers and agents,” says Jason Jakus, CEO and managing broker of NextHome Advisors and president of the Realtors Association of Greater Fort Myers and the Beach. “Ultimately, a single association with shared services across southwest Florida answers the needs of area brokers and Realtors.”
If it's approved, a joint task force of board members from both associations will determine the board composition and submit a new name with the merger request to the National Association of Realtors.
Realtor associations in Sarasota and Manatee counties went through a similar process last year, and ultimately agreed to a merger. The new organization is the Realtor association of Sarasota and Manatee.
