The Fort Myers and Naples areas have lots of great technology companies, but Greg Scasny doesn't think economic development groups are doing enough to promote them.

“We have a marketing issue,” Scasny told a group of technology investors and entrepreneurs at a Naples founder's talk organized by the Tamiami Angel Fund recently.

Scasny is the founder of Cybersecurity Defense Solutions, a technology startup in Fort Myers. Previously, he was co-founder and senior partner at Golden Tech in Naples where he helped grow the company to $10 million in sales and 700 customers.

Scasny says economic development organizations do a great job of promoting the beaches, hospitals and other positive attributes of working in Southwest Florida. But he echoes the complaint that many technology executives share privately about the region.

“We don't do enough fostering the great tech companies here,” Scasny says. “They don't talk about you guys.”

Scasny says the area's pro-business government should attract many more technology companies, but few people know about the region's vibrant tech scene. “It's just known to us,” he says.
