Florida Gov. Rick Scott appointed two new judges for the 12th Judicial Circuit Court, which covers Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties.

One new judge is Hunter Carroll, a commercial litigator with Matthews Eastmoore in Sarasota. Carroll, 40, replaces Judge James Parker, according to a statement. Carroll, who received his bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Florida, is the president-elect of the Sarasota County Bar Association. Before Matthews Eastmoore, Carroll was with the firms Carlton and Carroll and Carlton Fields, according to a statement.

The other new judge is Brian Iten, 49, of Parrish. Item has been the Assistant State Attorney for the 12th Judicial Circuit since 1994. He's also an adjunct instructor at State College of Florida and an instructor at the Law Enforcement Academy at Manatee Technical College. He replaces Judge Peter Dubensky.
