It's usually CEOs who get all the attention when it comes to corporate news.

But CFOs have begun to push their way into the spotlight.

Three large Tampa area public companies have made changes to the chief financial officer position in recent weeks. The moves began with the retirement of longtime Tech Data Corp. financial leader Jeff Howells, who had been with the Clearwater company since 1991.

Howells won't step down until June, but his successor has already been chosen. Charles Dannewitz, a Tech Data executive since 1995, will take on that role.

But that wasn't the end of CFO talk. Mark Erceg recently left his top financial officer post at Tampa-based Masonite International Corp. to take a similar position at Canadian Pacific. That will move Erceg from his home in Odessa to Calgary, where he will manage the financials of a rail transportation company that generates profits of close to $1 billion a year.

Next up on CFO chatter: Superior Uniform Group announced new plans for its CFO, Andrew Demott Jr., who will take on additional duties as the Seminole company's chief operating officer.
