When pest control executive George Pickhardt shifted his business model, to grow by acquisition, a dream-big goal was to make the top 10 on Pest Control Technology's annual top 100 list.

He's getting there.

The company, Sarasota-based Environmental Pest Service, is ranked 22nd in the magazine's annual list of the largest pest control companies nationwide by revenues. The firm had $35.1 million in 2014 sales. That put it one spot ahead of West Palm Beach-based Hulett Environmental Services, which had $34.1 million in 2014 revenues. EPS, where Pickhardt is chairman, also posted the highest year-over-year percentage growth among the top 100 with a 162% increase, up from $13.4 million in 2013.

“It's a tremendous honor to be named as one of the nation's top 25 largest pest-control companies,” Environmental Pest Service CEO Joe Finney says in a statement.

The company has steadily moved up the Pest Control Technology list. It was number 82 in 2012; 73 in 2013; and 49 in 2014. The looming challenge now is the top 11 firms on the list all have at least $110 million in annual sales. Pickhardt, in an interview last summer, says another goal at EPS is to reach $100 million in annual sales by 2016.

EPS completed 21 mergers and acquisitions with companies throughout Florida and Georgia in 2014. It's now the parent company of Arrow Environmental Services in west and central Florida, Bug Out Service in Jacksonville and Skyline Pest Solutions in Atlanta.
