The drive for a corporate headquarters to relocate to Tampa will likely be a big newsmaker in 2015.

Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik made that goal a key point of his mid-December presentation about the $1 billion proposed redevelopment of the Channelside district. Several others in Tampa economic development circles agree with Vinik, that now is the time to seize the momentum.

The push comes a few weeks after Pinellas County, downtown St. Petersburg specifically, had its own headquarters triumph. That was the announcement in December that call center firm iQor will move its global headquarters from New York City to the One Progress Plaza building in downtown St. Petersburg. iQor handles accounts receivables, customer services and product support services for clients.
The firm acquired St. Petersburg-based Jabil Aftermarket Services, a unit of Jabil Circuit, in April.

More than 100 iQor employees are expected to make the move to St. Petersburg, a release states, and the firm seeks to hire at least 20 more people locally. iQor can receive at least
$1.2 million in performance-based government incentives, mostly from the state, if it comes through on job agreements that potentially include more hires. A small portion of the incentives will come from Pinellas County and the city of St. Petersburg.

“We are thrilled to be moving iQor's corporate headquarters to St. Petersburg and to bring jobs and opportunity to a growing and thriving downtown,” iQor CEO Hartmut Liebel says in the release. “Given the roots of our aftermarket services business in the region, St. Petersburg is a natural fit for iQor.”
