TAMPA -- Faculty working in the University of South Florida's School of Accountancy will need new business cards now that the institution has been renamed to honor a $10 million donor.

Lynn Pippenger, a retired accountant and financial services executive with Raymond James Financial Inc., provided the donation as part of USF's $1 billion “Unstoppable” campaign. That creates the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, part of the recently renamed Muma College of Business.

Pippenger has donated to USF since 1986, and says she was inspired by the $25 million gift last October from Les and Pam Muma. Since the “Unstoppable” campaign started, Pippenger has donated $22 million to USF, with all but $1 million of it earmarked for the business school.

The money will help grow the accountant school in an industry where the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts will grow 16% over a 10-year period leading up to 2020, USF says, representing 190,700 new jobs. It also will create scholarships for accounting majors, and stipends for students participating in internships.

“When I was 4 or 5 years old and given a small allowance, I was taught that I always had to give back some of it to church and charities, I had to save some of it, and I could spend some of it,” Pippenger says, in a release. “I still do the same thing today.”

Pippenger, who graduated from USF in 1986, started working at Raymond James in 1969 as a payroll clerk. She would eventually serve as CFO and treasurer, creating Raymond James' human resources department, and launching an internal educational program now known as Raymond James University. Pippenger also helped file the paperwork in 1983 that took Raymond James public.

“I am excited that, by giving now, I will have time to see the results of this gift,” Pippenger says. “I look forward to seeing what the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy will accomplish.”
