Parisians know good chocolate when they taste it.

Fort Myers chef Dan Forgey, with Norman Love Confections in Fort Myers, was selected among the 10 best chocolatiers in the world after a grueling three-day competition in Paris that included creating new bite-sized chocolates and a towering chocolate sculpture. Forgey was there for the World Chocolate Masters competition in late October.

Just to reach the Paris competition was tough. Forgey had to beat domestic competition for the honor to represent the U.S. against 20 other nations. Forgey, who was a chef at the Waldorf Astoria in Naples before he joined Love in 2007, spent hundreds of hours of his spare time developing the new creations for the competition.

“I am so incredibly proud of Dan Forgey for his incredible talent and efforts at the World Chocolate Masters,” says Norman Love in a statement after the competition. “Placing in the super finals was a huge honor, and we are thrilled for his success on the biggest chocolate stage in the world.”
