A dental practice administrator-turned-film producer is selling his house. And much like his quick transformation from teeth to Hollywood, he will do it dramatically.
Steve Matzkin will auction off his six-bedroom South Tampa mansion just off Bayshore Boulevard April 28. And one thing is for sure: As long as someone makes an offer, he'll sign away his home on a private 1.3-acre lot because this sale through Grand Estates Auction Co. has no minimum bid, and no reserve.
Matzkin bought the house at 5225 S. Nichol St. in 2002 for $3.1 million.
The house was built in 1997, according to Hillsborough County property records. It has four bathrooms and both an informal and formal dining room, as well as a two-story library, a wine cellar and three-car garage.
Matzkin founded Sarasota-based Dental Care Alliance, which outsources administrative functions for dental practices. He later turned his attention to independent films. He earned executive producer credits on projects such as “Man in the Chair” starring Christopher Plummer, and “Once More With Feeling” in 2009 with Drea de Matteo from “The Sopranos” fame.
Matzkin says he was attracted to the auction instead of a traditional sale because he believes he can get a better return on his 13-year-old investment. Grand Estates, he says in a release, creates “excitement and immediacy” in luxury real estate -- most likely by putting out news releases that highlight somewhat sensational aspects of their owners, like potential Hollywood movie careers.
